More love for Hope

More encouraging words came in the mail today from our angel named Sarah at Bethel ;-)

Delphine talked to the ayis about notching up the affection level because I was really concerned that she was getting lost. Her and one of the other girls her age seemed to be really struggling (they are usually grouped together), and I felt like a lot of it was lack of affection and feeling safe and like they belong. So, I have been watching Li Hao the last week or so get special attention, more hugs and kisses, and a lot more affection and priority time. It has been so fun to see. I can already see a difference in her. Today the ayi was showing me some of the things Li Hao does. The ayi told her to smile and Li Hao gave this big grin. Then she told her to touch her hair (it was standing straight up after her nap) and she reached up to touch it. She totally responds to her name in a heart beat too. I was watching that today. She jumps up and reaches for me right away. She was more cuddly and relaxed today. I was holding her in my arms like a baby and she was snuggled up to me and just peaceful. Usually she will get hyper and kind of full of pent up energy. It really encouraged my heart to watch her just seem content and happy. She kissed me and it wasn’t a really hard kiss either but more gentle. I am really encouraged to really pray and watch God touch her little life…and I am just thanking Him so much. I think He’s already begun healing in her. I am guessing people have been praying! Love, Sarah

And an update from another Sarah email:

Delphine had the book you sent translated, and I gave it to one of the ayis to ask her to tell Li Hao about her family.  I think that is so great that she would hear it in Chinese.

Hi! I wonder if the ayis are getting a little bit hesitant about showing so much affection to the children who will be adopted. I adopted Joanna, formerly Zhao Si Mei from Bethel last May, and her nanny was definitely very attached to her. I had to pry Joanna off of her and the nanny just cried. Apparently, up until that point in time, there had not been very many adoptions from Bethel. Then, in the summer, another child from Joanna’s group, Pei Fang, was adopted. Most recently in January, Xin Ju, Joanna’s best friend at Bethel, was adopted. I wonder if the nannies hearts are hurting just a little at the loss of these precious children. I know they are happy for them to have homes, but I could understand if they are starting to pull away from the other children who will be adopted.

By the way, Joanna’s playmates at Bethel were Xin Ju and Zhi Wei. Zhi Wei is the little boy you posted about on the Waiting SN Children list. He is a little doll! I wish I could go and get him but China is closed to singles at the moment and I’m a single mom.

Have a great day! Debra
