Flickr flogr phlogr river

April 15th, 2008

I am a sucker for flickr toys and sites. I was just looking through my bookmarks last night for something else and serendipity took me to flogr. It was another dull moment in my life so I went ahead and flogr’d myself and ended up with a phillips-flogr, or a phlogr.

Here is another creative flickr api toy I stumbled across at roughly the same dull moment in my life last night: tag viewer.

And since I know you are wondering… My most often personally revisited flickr stops are located here and here. I can in recent times be found going down flickr rivers of some of the places in China that we will be visiting in May.

well wpg2 from what i tried so far is just too much fuss. it breaks the url rewrite in gallery and i couldn’t really get it working right… so i have been searching a bit more, and have found a couple nice flickr plugins; slickr and flickr-tag.  i haven’t yet given up on a nice way to embed my menalto gallery into the blog, but so far all i’ve found that looks like a maybe is lazy-k.

testing gallery plugins

March 22nd, 2008

plugins like wp gallery remote and lightbox are some of the reasons i finally decided to move tmphillips.com to wordpress.. these particular plugins allow one to access any available menalto gallery via the gallery remote protocol to easily link and display images in wordpress posts and pages… here’s my first test of the plugins… i tried the carousel mode first, which didn’t work. so this is plain mode, and while it takes up a lot of real estate, it sure is quick and easy… I will be trying wpg2 next…

(you can right and left arrow through the pictures as a slideshow when the lightbox window loads, and use the esc key to close when finished…)

{wp-gallery-remote: gallery=0; rootalbum=39967; showalbumtitle=true; showsubalbums=false; showimagesheader=false; thumbsize=90;imagefilter=include:39968,39977,39997,40005,40025,40045,40117,40121,40141,40153,40193,40229,40237,40241,40249,40253,40257,40101,40113,40165;}

wordpress

March 21st, 2008

i just migrated the main site here from the flat file simplephpblog software to a wordpress package, and am in the process of tweaking things to how i basically want them… i really like sphpblog, but am not a good enough coder to develop it the way i want, and they aren’t releasing many updates these days, so i figured the time had come to move on.

i like wordpress, and have been using it with other blogs for a long time now… with its large community of users and developers, and plugins, themes, etc, one really can’t go wrong.. because i wanted a similar look to the last one, i started this theme off using wordpress theme generator, and then hacked it from there… kind of a pain because i am new to yui, but i will learn enough of it to get into trouble as time wears on.. i did an rss import of the old posts and lost the comments doing it that way, but couldn’t figure out the perl script that somebody wrote for importing everything from sphpblog… i am sure there are only a handful of comments anyway, and most of them from me… so in that respect, ‘thank you’ to our faithful visitors for not interacting! ;-)

if you liked the old blog interface better, you can go here to at least view the historical stuff…
