Ignore previous comment, commandoes don't worry about windows I did a quick google search for stone building ruins on Arizona Trail - several sites referring to ranch structures and those of Indians.

A lot of work's gone into this one; some sort of commando survival exercise perhaps ... did you have a bit of a scratch around the floor for relics?

Looks like the apex of a geological fold where internal stresses have fractured a lot of the rock and hunters/campers have exploited it over the years as a shelter.

Indeed. Interesting read. At least the US has battle sites like these acknowledged, recorded, and marked with cairns/plaques. Oz is only just embarking on this journey.

Wow, that's quite a trail. Started me thinking Ik should read Bill Bryson's account of his walk on part of the Appalachian Trail. This one could be a retirement goal for you!

Hard going but not impossible if not too far away. Beautiful scene, great colours.

A bit contrasty for me but that's OK Just enough light on the shaded bank to reveal quite awkward access, although that may also be due to viewing it straight on. The earlier side view suggested that Waldo was doing OK (with care).
