Cute kid shot! I love how the light illuminates them, and they really seem to have their personalities shining through their faces/expressions. Very nice!

lmao! Sorry to hear about your perfect failure storm. Days like that happen all the time, to everybody. Don't let it get you down... but DO use a neck or wrist strap!

I think the high-key has potential, and I might B&W it and mess with adding some textures (On1 Perfect Effects has changed the life of many of my rather poor photos.)
