Assuming these flower in Spring, I presume this is a new leaf/stem extension. Nice how the sunburst does a mini-prickle mimic.

Looks good with the flash. Again, reminds me of diving and sticking my head/camera/flash into dark grottoes with daylight beyond.

Agree, the lighting has really imparted depth to the spikes. Nice to see close in colour too.
